We are deeply saddened to hear of the death of Don Butler on 29th January.
Don was instrumental in setting up our link with Montesson near Paris and was our first chairman, remaining an active committee member and vice chair until ill health forced him to step down just a few years ago.

Don + JF

Don forged a very deep friendship with his counterpart in Montesson, Jean-François Bel and we are very grateful to both of them for having the motivation to set up our respective Twinning Associations.

Before retiring, Don ran a successful furniture business in Thame and was a former Town Councillor and Town Mayor, serving on the Town Council for almost 30 years. He was Mayor four times - in 1992, 2000, 2001 and 2008. He was involved in many other town projects including Thame Barns Centre, Thame and District Housing Association, Town Awards, Thame Museum, Meadowcroft Care Home and Thame Evergreen Club

Don as Father Christmas

Our memories are of a true gentleman who gave his time generously and worked hard for his family and his community. He was always happy around Twinning activities and was there when help was needed, not least in his rôle as Father Christmas at our Christmas parties.

Don was a devoted family man and our hearts go out to his two daughters and their families.

We send our sincere condolences to them at this very sad time.

Our friends in Montesson sent this thoughtful letter of condolence on hearing of Don's death.
